Regents FAQs

What are Regents Examinations?

What are Regents Examinations?
Regents Examinations are standardized examinations for the core subjects taught in high school. Each core subject requires a specific number of credits completed for the student to be eligible for the Regents exam related to the core subject. The current Regents Examinations include English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, Social Studies, and Languages other than English. Students are required to pass 4 Regents Exams plus either an Advanced Placement or SAT II score, a Career and Technical Education (CTE) exam approved by the state, the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential, or a 5th Regents exam in order to obtain a Regents Diploma.
Does my child need a Regents Diploma to graduate?
Currently, any child that does not have a diagnosed learning obstacle must earn a Regents Diploma in order to graduate and obtain access to college, the military, or a trade school.
